The Nokia N93 is the ultimate cellphone for video recording

Nokia made headline last year when it announced its series of handheld. The initial hype subdued in a while, when the manufacturer could not launch the products on time, which gave its competitors enough time to come out with similar products. Learning a biter lesson from this, the company started announcing new products in the series only a couple of months before they were due to hit the market. The N93 is no different; it hit the shelves soon after its announcement. But it remains to be seen whether it carves its own destiny or follows the footsteps of the N90?

Camcorder Phone

Before discussing its design and aesthetics, it is important to understand the audience that Nokia is targeting with the audience that Nokia is targeting with the N93. To be precise, it is meant everyone. To be precise, it is meant for people with big pockets, both when it comes to dough and the depth. Standing at 118.2 mm tall and tipping the scales at 180 gram it is one of the largest demons around.

So, you might be wondering that who might want to buy such a humongous phone. Well, if I tell you that it is the only3.2megapixel camera phone that boasts of 3x optical zoom and video recording at 30 frames per second; wouldn’t you want to be its proud owner?

If the N90 was Nokia’s flagship still camera phone with its Carl Zeiss lens, the N93 repeats the same story with video. While using the N90, I was of the opinion that it was a camera first and a phone later. I thought so because the flap couldn’t be opened with a single hand in a single motion, which made attending calls uncomfortable. A cellphone should first be capable of doing its basic task and then take on new challenges.

The Nokia N95 is the first phone with 5.0 mega pixel camera to debut in the Indian market and like its sibling it carries the Carl Zeiss label with pride.

  • Hail the greatest smart phone with 5 mega pixel camera. The Carl Zeiss lens-equipped snapper can generate good 6*8 inch prints.
  • It capture video in DVD quality, a la N93
  • The acoustics are better than the N91
  • All the goodies are there-GPS, Wi-Fi Bluetooth, 3G, EDGE and HSDPA, direct TV out support.
  • It’s not just any slider; it slides both upwards and downwards, also changing the orientation of the screen.

Though the N95 has an inbuilt GPS receiver, we were unable to use it due to the absence of Indian maps. The Nokia N95 is the band’s first capabilities to use it on 2.5G networks. We eventually ended up using the handset just for its camera and music player. It is skin to driving a Ferrari at 15Km per hour josting for space with bullock carts on a narrow country road.

NOKIA’S WIDE-FACED effort is equipped with decent email, a full QWERTY keyboard and WiFi to boot.

Email is even easier to set up than on the Blackberry. Entering details and setting up takes less than five minutes, and our emails were soon whizzing and crashing into our inbox

It’s not the style guru’s choice of these phones, but it’s what you can do with it that counts. The huge screen lets you see both sender and header easily, and scrolling is a cinchy with the sturdy stick.

Web-surfing is a joy thanks to Nokia’s cunning browse. Zoomed-out land-in views of the page appear simultaneously as you scroll, with a red square indication where you are on the former-that’s godsend on long pages. You can switch from WAP to WiFi for a hot spot-assisted speed boost. The screen, though a bit murky, is still better than the rest.

A scroll wheel would’ve been nice as another way to navigate menus, but overall, this wide Web walker is just the ticket for both emailing and surfing.
